Discover Food Festival - October 7, 2023

The Discover Food Festival, presented by the IRC in Salt Lake City and Charcuterie Artisans, will offer community members the opportunity to engage with and support local refugee and new American culinary businesses, featuring a variety of global cuisines. The festival aims to bring together over 1,000 community members to celebrate global food traditions and taste the rich culinary diversity available in Utah. Enjoy food from around the globe, live entertainment, and entrepreneur food demonstrations! Entrepreneurs at the event participate in the IRC's Spice Kitchen Incubator program, an initiative focused on serving culinary entrepreneurs working to start, sustain or scale their small business in Utah!

Spice Happenings - "Local Voices: Together We Welcome" Exhibition

Craft Lake City and the IRC in Salt Lake City have setup a public art exhibition titled “Local Voices: Together We Welcome.” This new exhibition aims to honor and highlight global cultures that have arrived in Utah and now call the state “home.” It invites the public to learn more about our newest neighbors and listen to their stories.

Job Overview: Spice Kitchen Incubator assists refugees, immigrants, other new Americans, and community members of low-moderate income to plan, launch, scale, and sustain their own food business through free technical assistance, subsidized kitchen time, and market access. This position supports service delivery for all program participants in the Spice Kitchen Incubator. The position supports program operations including recruiting program participants; supporting volunteers; delivering training and technical assistance activities for participants; and community engagement. The Program Specialist reports directly to a Spice Kitchen Program Coordinator. This is a full time, regular term position.

Discover Food Festival - September 17, 2022

The IRC hosted, in partnership with the Spice Kitchen Incubator and Creminelli Fine Meats, the 2022 Discover Food Festival. This event was made possible by dozens of volunteers, raised several thousand dollars for the IRC and the Spice Kitchen Incubator, and created $12,809 in sales for the participating Spice Kitchen Entrepreneurs.

Wendy Juarez is creating opportunities to bring vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores together for authentic Mexican cuisine! Wendy's small business, Prime Corn, won the top prize at this year’s New American Dream Lab, an event hosted by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City giving local refugee and immigrant entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their businesses and win a capital prize! Wendy, an entrepreneur participating in Spice Kitchen Incubator, keeps the focus of Prime Corn simple, specializing in 90% corn-based dishes, and 100% vegan and vegetarian-friendly foods. In Wendy’s words, people who eat meat have prime rib, why can’t vegetarians have prime corn?

Employment Opportunity - Food Entrepreneur Liaison AmeriCorps

The AmeriCorps position will help increase employment opportunities and stabilize income for housing by working with participants in the Spice Kitchen Incubator program who require additional time and technical assistance to grow their food businesses. The position will meet with select participants 1-2 times per week to help them reach identified food business goals including increasing access to market opportunities and preparing for market opportunities ensuring high quality cuisine and service is offerd. This position will increase Spice Kitchen’s capacity to support participants in increasing their own income and in generating additional employment opportunities for other community members. The AmeriCorps member will work with all Spice Kitchen team members, and in particular with Spice Kitchen’s Program Coordinator.
