Spice Happenings - Enrolling a New Cohort

April 2021

Twice a year, Spice Kitchen Incubator staff interview and enroll a new cohort of food entrepreneurs who aspire to share their culinary traditions with the community. One year ago, the team was preparing orientation with their first COVID-19 cohort - of which most entrepreneurs have experienced only a few in-person meetings and trainings over the past 12 months. In October, a smaller-than-normal cohort was enrolled. Now, with many applications, we're excited to enroll what we hope will be a full cohort of entrepreneurs!

This spring, applicants will be sharing their business ideas and culinary traditions from 12 different countries across the globe - Democratic Republic of Congo, Burma, Albania, Iraq, and India, to name just a few. Although interviews are different during COVID-19, applicants will still have the opportunity to show their best 2-3 dishes or items through video chat and further explain how they're made and their significance.

Newly enrolled entrepreneurs will follow a food business-specific curriculum like other participants before them, and now they will also complete a basic digital literacy assessment in their very first meeting.

Spice Kitchen Incubator's bundled services model will continue to support entrepreneurs in other areas of growth and stability as well, including asset and credit building practices, immigration services, and mental health counseling.

We're excited to continue working alongside these inspiring entrepreneurs and can't wait to see what they can cook up and offer Salt Lake City!
